MoU to promote Chess as Learning tool

MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING
between
The International Centre, Goa
and
Taleigaon Chess Academy Sports Club

This memorandum is between The International Centre, Goa (ICG), and Taleigaon Chess Academy (TCA). The ICG and TCA share a common objective in promoting an interest among the public especially children in Goa, in chess. In pursuit of their common interests and in the service of the creative and professional development of their respective organizations, they agree to work together in the form as outlined in this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The ICG was founded in June 1987 ‘to promote understanding and amity between parts of the country and with different communities of the world.’ It seeks to achieve this through multiplicity of activities such as conferences, seminars, study courses, training programmes, lectures, research, interaction with national and international bodies, dissemination of information, fellowships and scholarships. TCA was formally established in February 2007 with the aim to promote chess as a learning tool especially at pre-primary and primary level in Goa. TCA is affiliated to the Goa State Chess Association (GSCA). Both institutions are registered as not-for-profit organisations under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.

ICG supported TCA in promoting chess by collaborating in organising the 2nd All Goa Primary School Chess Tournament at ICG in September 2007. ICG wishes to continue its support to TCA in promoting chess in Goa by collaborating in organising tournaments, competitions and training classes at ICG as well as at venues outside ICG.

Therefore, through this memorandum, both affirm their common commitment to promote chess among children of Goa and India. Both Institutions recognize the mutual benefits of such collaboration and recognizing the benefits and synergies which may be realized through their partnership, enter into the MoU. This MoU is intended to further strengthen and consolidate the ties between the two Institutions in the following ways:
1. ICG will collaborate with TCA to organise annual Chess Tournaments to be held in the last week of January for the next five years at ICG.

2. ICG will continue to provide its infrastructure for such tournaments.

3. Both the institutions agree on developing modalities to jointly raise funds in the form of sponsorships and fees to support organisation of any such event.
4. Any other activities of either the ICG or TCA such as seminars, conferences, etc., which may be of common interest to both the Institutions, may be taken up after due discussion and consensus between the Director of the ICG (or persons duly authorised by him) and the President of the TCA (or persons duly authorised by them).
5. The Institutions also agree that the events collectively conceptualised and initiated by them need not necessarily have to be held at the premises of the ICG.
6. TCA will be solely responsible for day-to-day operations of the TCA and in particular with regard to all legal and juridical requirements for holding any such event and also for all pre-event publicity and arrangement of such events. The ICG will provide infrastructural assistance for tournaments and competitions.
This protocol will be effective for a period of five years from the signing of this agreement and it may be renewed on terms mutually agreed upon by both parties. However, either Institution may terminate the agreement with three months notice given in writing and any such termination shall not affect obligations already agreed upon.
